My all time favourite has to be Backpacks, Boots and Baguettes which is a collaboration between Simon Calder (who is often seen on BBC Breakfast) and Mick Webb. You get to read about their mishaps and special moments as they walk the GR10 through the Pyrenees, meandering across the French and Spanish borders. I never get tired of this book, and it always makes me want to pick up my backpack, grab a bottle of red wine, and put on my walking boots. I'd recommend this if you are trying to find the inspiration for a tough journey!
In close second (and third) are the Long Way Round and Long Way Down books, which act as a diary of both Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman as they take on some extraordinary challenges by motorbike. Not only do you get to learn about some hidden corners of the world, but you also see the actors in a completely different light - something which is both good and bad as a reader. Having read these books, plus Charlie Boorman's Race To Dakar - I can certainly say that I have a lot of respect for them both.
Do you have any more suggestions for me? I love to read something that tells a very true story and has an inspirational edge! Leave your comments below... x
